2.0.0
After many delays, I’m really pleased to finally share the biggest update Appy Weather has ever had. This is a true 2.0.
Before getting into what’s new, I want to address the delay — especially for existing customers — and offer a sincere apology. I don’t want to sugar-coat it. I messed up. I made a number of poor decisions along the way. I’ve learned a lot as a result, and I won’t be repeating those same mistakes.
For transparency, those wrong calls came at a personal cost. I’m not sharing that for sympathy, but to be clear: I simply can’t afford to let Appy Weather drift again. Because of that, Appy Weather — and in particular its Android development — will remain a high priority from here on.
The Technical Bits
About 18 months ago, I made a big decision to completely reset the app’s foundations. It was a tough call, but it was the right one. That work now puts Appy Weather in a position where it can only grow stronger, and properly support the next decade (and beyond) of development.
For some context, the main reason development on version 1.0 slowed down was its non-native technical foundations. That made building the next generation of features far more difficult than it should have been, imposed real limits on what the app could support, and contributed to some of the reliability issues people experienced.
Because of that, Appy Weather has been completely rewritten in Kotlin using Jetpack Compose — in other words, rebuilt from the ground up with Android-first development and the platform’s latest, best-supported APIs.
What’s New?
A lot! The entire experience has been levelled up. Think of it as the Appy Weather you already love — just more refined, more capable, and even more enjoyable to use.
You now have more control to make the app truly your own. And as mentioned earlier, this is just the beginning — you can expect it to keep getting better from here.
The Good News
If you’re an existing subscriber, this one’s for you. As a genuine thank-you for your continued support, you’re getting more value at your current subscription price — and that price will stay locked in.
For new subscribers, prices have increased for the first time in seven years. Given everything that’s changed in the world over that time, this was a necessary step to give Appy Weather the best possible chance of long-term success.
To help with that — and in response to popular demand — I’ve also introduced a limited lifetime pass. Available exclusively to the first 1,000 supporters, this is a one-time opportunity to unlock permanent access to all current and future premium features. No recurring fees. Just the best Appy Weather experience, forever.
That’s it for today — but expect plenty more news and updates throughout 2026.
Happy New Year, and thank you, as always, for your support.
